Opener runs but the door won't move?
If the opener hums or runs but the garage door stays put, the red release cord may be pulled or the opener's drive gear may be stripped. A broken spring can cause it too, because a door without its spring is too heavy for the opener.

Opener questions
How do I reconnect the door to the opener?
With the door fully closed, reset the release (the label by the cord shows which way to pull), then run the opener once. If it won't reconnect, call (707) 754-1755.
What does it mean when the opener hums but nothing turns?
The motor is getting power but can't turn. That's usually a failed start capacitor, a jammed drive, or a door the opener can't lift because a spring has broken. Opener repair starts at $185.
